Movie blog: Fashion, nothing real about it
It was post Diwali day and I ventured out for first day first show. I decided to watch Fashion, the latest reality byte from the fashion world by Madhur Bhandarkar, instead the comedy movie released the same day - Golmaal Returns.
Madhur Bhandarkar is the master director who portrays reality, but we all know that the fashion industry is cruel and harsh – what’s new about it?
Bhandarkar tried to show the reality but without the backdrop of a good storyline. Priyanka Chopra was in every frame of the film and many will not know that she wore 137 outfits in the film.
She must have wished that this would be her ticket to fame, since the year so far hasn't proved quite successful for her as all four of her releases - Love Story 2050, God Tussi Great Ho, Chamku and Drona - turned out to be box office duds.
The script is really dull and it only revolves around Priyanka – less reality byte from other hardcore surroundings of fashion industry. Her acting is the same, nothing special this time around too.
The story is of small-town girl Meghna Mathur played by Priyanka Chopra who wants to make it big in the fashion industry as a supermodel. In the city of dreams, Mumbai starts her struggle to reach the top. Paving her way through model coordinators, portfolio photographers, talent managers, fashion designers, media moguls and business magnates she finally gets to rule the ramp.
Before she got transformed into full fledged model item, she was already looking like a super model prior to becoming one – so where does transformation gone.
The screenplay is as complex as easy the spirit of the story sounds to be. The writing by Madhur Bhandarkar is not short on detailing the operational intricacies of the fashion world.
Priyanka Chopra's character graph in wisely sketched from an aspiring model to a showstopper to a brash supermodel and subsequently to a faded manikin.
Kangna Ranaut as Shonali, the super-model who just got reduced to dust before Meghna, is nothing more than just overacting what she has done in Gangster, Woh Lamhe and now Fashion - repeating her i-am-always-a-drug-addict-and-loser-in-life performance yet again.
And guess what’s the most amazing and entertaining part of the film - the comments audience were hurling at the film. I would advice don’t even think of taking your kids for this film; there is nothing educative or informative the film offers other than telling that your life is bound to be hell if you enter the fashion world.
There are distinctive Bhandarkar-brand of revelations on the glamour world like how wannabe models get pay-packets for being eye-candy at elite events or how eminent designers tag their labels on apparels from Bangkok's Indira Market to pass-off as their own creations.
What Bhadarkar has tried to show in his movie is reality for sure, but half full glass. Who does not know how the fashion industry is all about and people treat you there as a piece of shit, nothing more than that.
But I am sure there must be positive side to it. The truth is always not harsh – scene behind can depict some better picture, full of life, style understanding the industry in ground level.

Have you faced it?
Comments Comments Comments!! I am tired of all such comments. Do you know the amount of time and efforts it took to portray in the form of a bloody 3 hour movie. One can always creep of others. Try to be optimistic, atleast for others, no matter for yourself you can be negative. I give you open challenge to direct a reality movie. everyting gonna sponsored by my production house.

completely agree with you
Hi i read your blog and i completely agree with you. Yes Mr Bhandarkar failed to show so many things. And he should have shown little of what positive aspect of fashion world carries. the other side of the coin is always there and definitely not restricted to negative thoughts only. Well written review.
